In Sierra Leone Abu Kanu is known as an art and advertising painter and designer. Since 1988 he lives and works in the Netherlands and since 1996 in Amsterdam Southeast. In the Netherlands Abu developed his artistic practice further and expanded his practice with teaching West African percussion. His work includes: paintings, pen drawings, masks, wooden sculptures, textile and art in public space. His last commissioned work, WAN!, is a pulpit and monument for the Surinamese poet Dobru. Abu also organises art and percussion workshops for children and adults.
