Biserka Šuran was born in former Yugoslavia to a Dutch mother and a Croatian father. Since 1991 she lives in Amsterdam. Biserka is currently studying Documentary Directing at the Netherlands Film Academy. In her work Biserka is constantly exploring new directions, however recurring themes are coming home and connecting. Her latest film was shot in Heesterveld a neighbourhood in the Bijlmer. The question underlying this film was: what is left of the well-known Dutch proverb “rather a good neighbour, than a faraway friend?”. In different settings Biserka tried to get in touch with her neighbours to discuss what they think about this proverb.
