Delano Mac Andrew

Delano Mac Andrew works both two- and three-dimensional. The themes that characterise his work include ‘other’ cultures and the response to these ‘other’ cultures by Dutch society, victim mentality in immigrant groups and slavish consumerism. The main materials that Delano works with are MDF and paint. Delano’s recent sculptures are based on his research into sitting positions in various cultures. The resulting objects are balancing between applied and fine art, between seat-shape and visual object. In these sculptures a specific sitting posture is recognisable. Most objects have an ornament due to a geometrical cut-away. Whereas ornaments are used as additional decoration in objects from Africa and Asia the ornamental shapes in Delano’s seating sculptures are the result of a negative absent form.
