Ike de Jong
Ike de Jong creates memorials. In her work she captures memories as traces of the deceased. It is the proof that s/he has been here. Ike creates memorials for graves as well as urns and small objects for at home. Her work reminds one of fossils; it is a cast of something living eternalised in stone. Ike makes use of aluminous cement. The basic elements of this material almost equal ordinary cement, but the proportions are different. Aluminous cement reacts almost stormy with water due to which it forms a dense, strong and weather resistant cement stone in a short time. For her commissioned works Ike sees herself as an interpreter, as someone who makes visible in another language what someone else means. This art is a proof that the unspeakable exists.
