Dawood Hilmandi is an Afghan-Dutch visual artist, filmmaker, photographer and researcher in/through cinema. Often touching upon personal and political issues, his experimental videos explore the relation between authority, memory and imagination. His upcoming fiction project Badeszenen is the winner of Locarno Open Doors’ 2017 top prize, Switzerland. His works have been screened at a.o. International Film Festival Rotterdam, NFF, International Film Festival Oberhausen, Krakow Film Festival, International Short Film Festival Winterthur, Eye Film Museum, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Watermill Center New York. He is one of the selected artists participating in the Greenhouse film platform 2017-2018, Morocco. He holds a MA artistic research film, NFA Amsterdam, a postgraduate diploma in filmmaking, LFA London, and a BA Fine Arts, Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam.
