This year the Open Ateliers, one of the oldest artists’ collective from Southeast, has existed for 25 years. This group of artists, who found each other in 1993, started an open studio route past attic rooms, kitchens and gazebos. Members continued to join, and the artists moved from demolition flat to demolition flat in search of living and working space. In 2005 the collective was finally able to settle permanently in Kruitberg and they could establish their studios in the baseboards of the flat. Since then they have become part of the neighborhood, have organized numerous cultural projects in the Bijlmer and beyond, and have left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of Southeast.
In honor of the 25th anniversary, the overview exhibition “25 years of OAZO” will open on Saturday 7 December at LOLA BAE at Hettenheuvelweg 16.
The official opening will take place on Saturday, December 7 at 1 p.m. We have put together a unique program this afternoon, in which founders, artists and stakeholders look back and discuss the position of art in the city of Amsterdam. You can also participate in the graffiti tags workshop led by Mick la Rock and the Blikopeners and learn more about the history of graffiti in Southeast.
