Marcel van den Berg is a multidisciplinary artist navigating between different media. His work is a constant balancing act between form and content, abstraction and figuration, raw expression and language, society and art (history). His work shapes organically, while seeking for associations, new compositions emerge. His works seems to be in a constant state of flux, they are the result of an ongoing process of changing ideas about status, content and meaning. Due to this intuitive and associative process the end result is rarely fixed in advance. Imperfections may be part of a work. Overarching theme in his work is the way in which minorities are treated, then and now, and associated forms, patterns and mechanisms of human behaviour that express themselves in societies.
